Vin des neiges
Since 2018, the Vins des Neiges have been aging in the snows of the Cauterets & Gourette ski resort.
This is the first time that a winemaker has aged his wines under the snow. At the beginning of January, 1,200 bottles of Château de Lugey, white and red, were buried under 5 meters of snow, at more than 2,400 meters above sea level.
The operation requires significant technical means since the iron boxes were transported by helicopter.
After 5 months of aging under the snow, the passage of snow groomers and a few blows of the shovel, the bottles are finally recovered.
Sommelier Yves Bottasso comments that the 2016 Blanc des Neiges is more complex on the nose than the one aged in the cellars and compares it to a Sancerre on the palate. The Rouge des Neiges 2015 does not leave anyone indifferent either. Jean-Christophe Simon, oenologist at the Faculty of Oenology in Toulouse, is surprised by its structure and the maturity of the aromas.
